330km
Wednesday 6th of june
Prepare for a day with spectacular roads and stunning views. It’s going to be a long and eventful ride.
Along the road:
Hardanger
We start off driving through Hardanger and along Hardanger Fjord. Hardanger is well known for growing fruit. 40% of all Norwegian fruit is grown in the region including apples, sweet cherries, pears and plums. It is a spectacular area to ride through when the fruit trees are blooming in the spring. The Hardanger Fjord is 179km long and is the 3rd longes fjord in the world.
Stalheimskleiva
Later this day we will ride down Stalheimskleiva. One of the steepest roads in Northern Europe, built during 1842-1846. The road has 13 hairpin bends. On either side of the road you can see the Stalheim Waterfall (126 m) and the Sivle Waterfall (142 m).
Undredal
We also stop in Undredal; a small fjord village well known for its pasture farming and goat cheese. It is also a very nice place to visit just to stretch our legs and have a look at the mountains towering more than a thousand metres above Aurlandsfjordens tranquil waters.
High Mountain Road
We continue our journey on “The Snow Road” across the Aurlandsfjellet plateau. One of the most stunning high-mountain roads in Norway.
Tyin Moutain Pass
If we can find the time and energy when we arrive in Øvre Årdal, we can ride the twisty roads up to Tyin Mountain Pass, turn around at the top and go back down to the valley.
Or; those who prefer a nice cup of coffe, stretch their legs and to just take in the quietness by the Fjord and the mighty nature – this is a good time to do so for a couple of minutes.
Turtagrø
We sit down for some fine dining with a spectacular view high up in the mountain.
Note: The below map might show a slightly different rout than the one we actually ride..
